Vasiliy Ryabchenko made this painting, called “Beach”, with visible brushstrokes and a cool palette. It seems to have come into being through layers, shifts, and the pure joy of colour. I can imagine Ryabchenko standing before the canvas, brush loaded with pigment, making each mark with intention. What was he thinking as he laid down those initial strokes of blues and whites? The thin paint allows the surface texture to peek through, creating a subtle dance between material and image. Look at the dark gesture on the right side of the painting. It could be a tree, or maybe a strange figure, but its energy feels raw and immediate. These gestures are Ryabchenko's handwriting, a direct translation of feeling onto the canvas. It reminds me a bit of the early Joan Mitchell. Ultimately, artists are always talking to each other, across time and space, inspiring each other to push the boundaries of what painting can be. Ryabchenko embraces ambiguity, inviting us to bring our own experiences and interpretations to the work, making each viewing a unique and personal journey.
