Pellerin & Cie made this print, titled 'Van een ridder,' using some kind of printmaking process, at an unknown date. It’s a real trip! The subdued color palette feels like a half-remembered dream, and the whole composition is broken up into these wonky, geometric compartments. I love that it embraces a kind of visual storytelling, like a comic, but without the rigid structure. There’s a real charm to the way each image is framed. Take the first panel, for example. The knight stands there in his armor, but it's all wonky, with these slightly off-kilter lines that remind me that everything is hand-made. The process is right there on the surface! It reminds me a bit of early twentieth-century German Expressionism, but with a fairy-tale twist. I'm not sure what’s going on, and that’s fine, because it is a journey into the unknown.
