This is a page from the Wachenheimer family photo album, taken in Germany in June 1934. It's a set of small snapshots, carefully arranged and captioned, capturing moments of daily life. I'm looking at these little squares and thinking about how the family might have felt at that moment in time. What were their hopes and fears? Were they aware of the storm clouds gathering over Europe? How much intention went into taking these photographs? Was it just a quick documentation of a day, or did they have something bigger in mind? And I'm drawn to the way the photos are arranged on the page, like pieces of a puzzle, or building blocks for a story, and it's their story we are seeing through their eyes. I feel like I'm in conversation with them. It’s all so intimate and human.
