This drawing of the staircase of the Elisabethsgasthuis in Amsterdam was made by Willem Schellinks using pen in gray ink and gray wash. Schellinks’ choice of materials and techniques influences the drawing's appearance, with the ink rendering subtle gradations of tone to suggest the texture and weight of the stone.
