This etching, *Two Artists with Dog* by Edgar Levy, captures a moment of creative exchange. It's all lines here, all these crosshatched marks, and a dog. I bet Levy made this in one sitting, imagining himself watching two figures with a dog in a studio space. The one on the left almost looks like a hieroglyph, don't you think? The figure on the right seems to be in the middle of painting, so I imagine Levy probably thought a lot about line, shadow and shape when he made this. I like to think about how there's always a relationship between looking at a painting and making a painting. What might he have been thinking? You know, etching has a long history. I bet Levy was looking at the works of Picasso when he made this piece. It's as though he's picked up a tiny thread in this long, long history of art.
