Martial Raysse painted "Tue moi Yasmina" with an understanding of artmaking as a process, and so here, we have a canvas where the artist makes use of a distinctive approach to mark making and colour. The canvas is a symphony of textures, colours, and physicality. The paint feels deliberately applied, creating a tactile surface that invites exploration. The canvas isn’t fighting the paint, it’s embracing it. There's a part of the background, where the blue transitions into a gradient of yellow, which is particularly beautiful, both formally and metaphorically. Raysse’s work, and "Tue moi Yasmina" in particular, reminds me a little of Alex Katz. Both artists seem to share an interest in the ongoing conversation of art across time, embracing ambiguity and multiple interpretations over fixed meanings.
