This rendition of a clock was made by John Dieterich sometime between 1855 and 1995, and it’s not just a clock, but a grandfather clock, and not just any grandfather clock, but a drawing of one! I wonder what John was thinking when he created this image. Perhaps he saw this clock and thought, "I want to live with that." So, he created his own to hang on the wall, like a painting. It's got this handmade border, which is quite sweet. It gives it a precious quality. The surface is so light, you could miss it! The way an artist makes something like this is about having a conversation, not just with yourself, but with the thing that you're looking at. It’s about a language being created and re-created between the artist, their subject, and you!
