Beaker 1720 - 1730

This small beaker was made in Vienna, and showcases the mastery of porcelain production. The piece is meticulously crafted, highlighting the inherent delicacy and translucence of the porcelain material. Note the gold rim, the base. It is hand-painted with colourful Chinoiserie motifs, drawing inspiration from Chinese art and design, which were very fashionable at the time, as European markets looked further afield for inspiration and luxury goods. Porcelain was extremely sought after in Europe, and its production was tied to global trade networks and the desire for luxury goods.
