Sylvia Dezon made this drawing of a baby’s cap with what looks like pencil on paper. It's so delicate. You can see how she built up the form with these gentle, repeated strokes. It’s like she's feeling her way around the object. I love how she's captured the texture of the ruffled trim. The lines are so light, it’s almost as if the cap is floating on the page. And the shadow she’s created gives it a real sense of depth. It is like she has gently caressed the paper to leave this image behind. There is a second, smaller sketch just below, which gives it an interesting compositional relation. There's a kind of intimacy here, a tenderness. It reminds me of Agnes Martin's drawings – the same quiet intensity, the same attention to detail. Both artists share a sensitivity to line and form. This piece is more than just a drawing of a baby's cap, it’s a meditation on innocence, fragility, and the passage of time.
