Oleg Holosiy made this painting, Travel, with oil on canvas. It's hard to know when exactly, but it doesn’t really matter. With its dream-like imagery and ambiguous figures, it invites us into a world where reality and fantasy intertwine. Look at how Holosiy layers paint, creating a textured surface that almost vibrates with energy. The blues and dark tones create a nocturnal atmosphere, yet the gestural marks feel impulsive and energetic. The whole thing is really dark, but then there's this little cluster of animals right at the bottom. They seem to be emerging from the dark, like ghosts or figments of the imagination. Holosiy is obviously thinking of the subconscious, and that's what it brings to mind. There’s something of Goya's dark romanticism about this, an exploration of the strange and unsettling aspects of the human condition. Ultimately, Holosiy’s painting encourages us to embrace ambiguity, to find beauty in the unexpected, and to see art as a means of questioning and exploring the complexities of existence.
