Kateryna Bilokur made this painting, Dahlias, with oil on canvas, and right away you can see that she wasn’t afraid to get into the nitty gritty. There's something so tactile about the way she’s built up these flowers. Look at those dahlias, those dense purple globes, each petal meticulously rendered with such care. You can almost feel the velvety texture. I love how she uses colour – not just the purples and reds, but the way she sneaks in little touches of yellow and blue, creating this shimmer that makes the whole painting vibrate. It’s a bit like she’s showing us how to really see, how to find the hidden colours in everything around us. The orange lily, right in the center, seems to explode out of the canvas, a burst of energy that pulls everything together. Bilokur wasn't just copying what she saw, she was feeling it, and translating that feeling into paint. It reminds me a little of Frida Kahlo, that same intensity and passion for the natural world. Both artists show us that art isn't just about making pretty pictures. It's about finding new ways to see and feel the world.
