Pierre Alechinsky made 'Stars and Disasters', or 'Astres et Désastres' in his native French, using etching. The circular form is fascinating here because it's got these vertical forms in it which look a bit like blurry figures. There’s something so juicy about the way the colors are layered in this print. The artist creates this beautiful, saturated effect, and it feels like he's really pushing the boundaries of the medium. It's almost like he's saying, ‘How much can I get away with here?’ And I love that because it's so much about the process of making art. Look at the top right corner. The way the yellows have been laid over the reds – these bold, sweeping gestures – creates this incredible sense of depth and movement. It's as though the artist is inviting us to witness the act of creation itself. You could compare this to Joan Miro, as it evokes the subconscious and irrational. I love that art can embrace ambiguity. It's not about having all the answers. It's about creating a space for dialogue and exchange.
