Aat Verhoog made this print, Anatomisch weergegeven figuren, with etching. It's all done in black ink, and the figures are set against a dark ground. I can almost feel Verhoog’s hand moving across the plate. It's not about perfection, but more about exploring what it means to be human, inside and out. The lines give the impression of diagrams or schematics. Do you think he was thinking of science when he made it? I wonder if he felt like he was dissecting these figures, not just physically, but also emotionally? It makes me think of other artists, like Jenny Saville, who also delve into the human form with such intensity. Artists keep having a dialogue with each other across time, ya know? They explore these big questions about existence and identity. It’s not about having all the answers, but more about embracing the process of searching.
