I'm looking at a painting, a study in oil, by Tetyana Yablonska depicting a girl rolling up her sleeves. Imagine Yablonska with her brush, how the painting came to be, shifting and emerging through intuition. I sympathize with her, wondering what she might have been thinking when she made it. The paint looks pretty thick here, doesn’t it? Notice that the girl dominates the composition, she's getting ready to do something. Her arms are outstretched, and her shadow falls below. What feeling does this gesture communicate? Is it about to get messy? This piece feels related to the work of other painters who have taken on the subject of work. You know, artists are in an ongoing conversation, inspiring one another’s creativity. Painting is a form of expression which embraces uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations.
