Aboudia made "La renaissance du Christ" using bold colors and free-spirited gestures. I imagine the act of painting was a dance between intention and accident. Sympathetic to Aboudia's practice, the rawness of the surface becomes a stage where figures emerge through layers of paint, collage, and fervent mark-making. The thick, vibrant blues and yellows that define the bodies remind me of Basquiat or even Dubuffet. Take for example the blue scribbles at the bottom. They seem impulsive, each stroke infused with energy. I imagine that Aboudia has a conversation going on between what is happening politically and internally. The art becomes a playground where the outside world can mix freely with his feelings. Ultimately, he's part of a larger conversation that’s been going on for centuries—artists responding to art, adding their own voices to the mix.
