Lovis Corinth conjured this paradise with oil on canvas, though when exactly, we can’t be sure. Just imagine the act of painting here, the shifting and emerging through trial, error, and intuition. I sympathize with Corinth, imagining what it might have been like to make this work. What was he thinking when he conceived of this scene? Look closely, and you'll see the thick application of paint and expressive brushwork. Notice how the colours shape your experience of the painting, contributing to the emotional and intellectual resonances of the work. The raised arm of Adam seems so sure, even defiant. Painters like Corinth, like me, like so many, are in an ongoing conversation and exchange of ideas across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. Painting is a form of embodied expression which embraces ambiguity and uncertainty, allowing for multiple interpretations. So, what does it say to you?
