This architectural rendering of a window from Stanwick Park, shows gentle washes of watercolor. Anonymous made this, so we don’t know who they are, or what their story is. I imagine the artist carefully mixing their colors, testing them on scraps of paper, trying to get just the right tone. I like to imagine the dabs and strokes, each one a tiny decision, building up the image, layer by layer. See how the soft yellows and greens create a sense of light and air? And how the artist uses subtle variations in tone to suggest depth and form. The patterns on the curtain are so evocative, it gives a feeling of a domestic interior. It reminds me that painting isn't just about what you see, but how you feel. It's about capturing a mood, a memory, a fleeting moment in time. I look at this and I think of many artists looking through their own windows, painting their own versions of the world.
