This photo of a Bavarian restaurant at the 1905 World Fair in Liege really nails that turn-of-the-century architectural vibe, it was produced anonymously with photography. The composition is pretty straightforward. Check out the facade of the building; it’s all signage and ornamentation, like a canvas, which is a reminder that it's all about showmanship and the art of the spectacle. It’s cool how the lettering is so prominent, almost like abstract shapes, pulling you into the image. It really embraces the idea that art isn’t just about what you see but how you see it, as the staff decorate for the event. The image is also a bit of a time capsule, capturing a moment of optimism and progress. Like a painting, it leaves room for interpretation, inviting you to reflect on what it means to bring a bit of Bavaria to Belgium. It makes me think of Bernd and Hilla Becher and their photo series in industrial buildings!
