David Young Cameron made this print called Tarff with etching and drypoint techniques. Look at the density of these marks. I can imagine him bent over the plate, scratching and needling. He's got that dark, brooding foreground, right? Then this expanse of shimmering, almost ethereal water that recedes into the distance. The contrast makes me wonder if he was thinking about light and shadow, or maybe the sublime power of nature. I feel a sense of awe and reverence, but also a kind of melancholy. It reminds me of Whistler’s nocturnes but with a Scottish twist. You know, that same moody atmosphere, but grounded in a specific place. Artists are always riffing off each other. We all see the world in our own way, and then we try to put it down, even if it's ambiguous.
