Clyde L. Cheney made this "Two Quart Jar" with, what looks like watercolor, and it's got that straightforward, no-frills kind of vibe. I love how Cheney builds up the form with these delicate layers of brown and tan, giving the jar a real sense of depth. You can almost feel the weight of it. The way the color shifts slightly across the surface, with darker browns hugging the edges, creates a subtle but effective sense of volume. Look at the rim, where the dark interior meets the light exterior – it's such a simple detail, but it really pops! The overall effect is so quiet and unassuming. It reminds me of Morandi's still lifes, in the way it finds beauty in the everyday. It invites you to slow down, and really see the object in front of you. It's a gentle reminder that art doesn't always need to shout to be heard.
