Editor: This is Nathan Carter's "Attention Archangel Radio Free Dunkirk is Reporting a Scotch Mist All Risks Apply" from the Tate collection. It's visually quite complex, almost like a sculptural map. What strikes you about this piece? Curator: I see the materiality as central. The constructed nature of the piece, its layers and visible construction, highlight the labor involved in its making. It challenges the traditional notion of art as purely intellectual by grounding it in physical production. Editor: So, it’s less about the representation and more about how it's made? Curator: Precisely. Consider the title – it's a collage of found phrases, much like the artwork itself is a collage of materials and processes. It invites us to think about the social and economic contexts of both the making and the consumption of art. What do you make of the visual language? Editor: That’s insightful. I hadn't considered the title in relation to the physical construction. Thanks! Curator: My pleasure. It’s all in the details and the means of production.
