These four photographs of camping on islands in the Loosdrechtse Plassen were made by Carolina (Loentje) Frederika Onnen. They're sepia toned; like a memory fading into a golden haze. There's a beautiful stillness, a quiet intimacy in these scenes. In the bottom right, a lone figure sits near a tent, the whole composition feels a bit like a stage set. Look at how the light filters through the trees, creating this dreamy, almost painterly quality. It reminds me of some of early photographers like Julia Margaret Cameron, or even paintings by Corot. The textures are incredible, you can almost feel the rough canvas of the tents, the softness of the grass. The whole thing feels deeply personal. The casual quality of the images give the feeling of a shared joke, a private moment caught on film. This piece captures something ephemeral, a fleeting moment of joy and camaraderie in a natural landscape.
