This is a cast iron still bank, called "Kassa," meaning "Ticket Office," and we don't know who made it, which is sort of cool, right? It’s giving me major vibes of a European ticket booth, like for a train or a show. I can almost smell the old wood and hear the clatter of the tickets. I'm imagining the maker figuring out how to get that deep red color just right, maybe layering it to get that worn, aged look. Notice how the gold lettering and flourishes really pop against that red. I wonder if they were thinking about the gold coins that would eventually be dropped inside! And think about the texture – you can almost feel the rough surface of the cast iron. Each little detail probably took a ton of patience and care. I am sure the conversations, ideas and techniques used would have bounced between makers, studios, and workshops. It makes me think of how we’re all connected through making, you know?
