Patricq Kroon made this drawing about financial problems, with ink, and you can see it’s a kind of action shot, a moment frozen in time. What strikes me is the bold, confident lines that define the figures. There’s something so immediate about seeing the artist’s hand at work, the way he fearlessly commits to each stroke. I love how the scratchy texture of the ink creates a sense of depth and movement, almost like you can feel the tension in the room. Look at the way Kroon uses hatching to create shadows and volume, it really brings the characters to life. You can almost feel the weight of the financial burden hanging over their heads. It reminds me a bit of George Grosz, with that same kind of satirical edge and expressive line work. It’s a good reminder that art doesn’t always have to be pretty, it can also be a powerful tool for social commentary and critique.
