One immediately sees a hierarchy established as viewers are removed from a landed context: those working must embark, be it voluntarily or otherwise, in contrast to observers standing inland. Curator: Absolutely, consider that boats appear historically as a metaphor. I find myself seeing Charon's boat and imagining it crossing the river Styx—a psychological passage between states of being. Water frequently references emotional experience.
