Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Curator: At Harvard Art Museums, we have Sedrick Huckaby's "99% NO.10 Roderick." It's a drawing, quite intimate in scale. The figure sprawled across the sofa, it feels so immediate, almost like a snapshot. Editor: The immediacy is captivating, yes. It’s as though we’ve interrupted a very private moment. I notice the floating blocks of text, too. What are those? Curator: Well, text as symbol, right? Like fragmented thoughts hovering around the figure. The artist is capturing a mood more than a perfect likeness. Editor: Right, the sofa itself reads like a sort of psychological landscape. Comforting, yet somehow…confined. The very direct title also hints to the individual that is the subject. Curator: It's very human, very grounded. I feel the love in it, don’t you? Editor: Yes, a palpable tenderness. This drawing, with its raw honesty, leaves a strong imprint, doesn't it? A beautiful glimpse into someone’s world.
