Here we have Martha Boto’s ‘Integration’, an oil on wood panel. It’s a mesmerising play with blues, from the deepest indigo to the palest, almost ethereal, sky blue, a real process of layering that mimics the cosmos. What I love about Boto’s work is the texture, smooth and cool, like porcelain. Look closely, and you see how the blues are built up, one over the other, creating depth and a sense of infinite space. The shapes themselves – those bean-like forms scattered across the canvas – seem to float, untethered, against the dark backdrop. Then there's those cubes, like little architectural daydreams contained within the floating space. Boto’s got a way of making you feel like you’re peering into another dimension, maybe like Hilma af Klint. It's not just about what you see but how it makes you feel and think. It's about the endless possibilities that lie within the simplest of forms.
