Jacek Malczewski painted "Follow the Stream (right wing)" with watercolour, and the way he moves the paint, it’s like watching a dance. Check out how he uses thin washes of color. It's all so fluid, right? The ground looks like it’s breathing and the trees are like see-through ghosts. There's a kind of haze over everything which I think is just the way he put the paint down. And the woman in the middle, she’s walking but also sort of floating. It’s interesting to me that he leaves so much visible. You can see the marks of the brush all over the place, he’s not trying to hide anything and this makes me feel like I’m looking at something very honest. It reminds me a bit of some of Odilon Redon's landscapes, that same kind of dreamlike quality. And I guess that’s what art does, it takes you somewhere else, doesn’t it?
