This black and white photograph, titled *Mary, Pablo, and Andrea—Los Angeles*, was shot by Robert Frank sometime in the 20th century. It’s almost a snapshot, capturing a mother and her two kids sitting at a table. Frank was a master of capturing ordinary moments and making them speak volumes, and I wonder what he was thinking when he framed this scene. I imagine the light was probably pretty dim, or maybe the focus was just a little off. The woman looks tired, maybe a little sad. The kid on the right seems mischievous, with a sparkle in their eye, while the other one is more subdued. There's something very real and honest about this image, like a memory caught on film. Frank's work always felt like he was having a conversation with the world, showing us the beauty and the grit of everyday life. This piece echoes the work of photographers like Diane Arbus, who also had a knack for finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. Artists continue to inspire each other across generations, and I think this photo still speaks to us today.
