Paperweight c. 1845 - 1860

This paperweight was created by Baccarat Glassworks, and is now held at the Art Institute of Chicago. The first impression is of a perfectly contained world. Note how the arrangement of the flowers within the clear glass dome creates a sense of depth, with the flowers seemingly floating in space.
