Yannoulis Chalepas made this piece called "Thought" out of plaster, but who knows when exactly. Look at the surface, all rough and unfinished. It's like Chalepas just wanted to wrestle an idea into shape. The plaster feels so immediate, like you could reach out and smudge it, you know? It gives the piece such a raw, kind of vulnerable feeling. That woman's face, heavy with sadness as she rests her head on the other figure... the weight of it seems to seep out of the sculpture. It makes me think about Rodin, like "The Kiss" turned tragic. But Chalepas has this very personal voice, all his own. Art isn’t about perfection, it’s about embracing the mess, right? And this sculpture is a real testament to that.
