Robert Frank captured this contact sheet, "From the bus 31", with his camera, a tool for freezing moments in time. I like to imagine Robert Frank riding the bus, his eye drawn to the world outside, a constant stream of fleeting moments. The film strip captures a sequence, a before and after, a rhythm. Each frame is a little world, a snapshot of urban life, people going about their day, storefronts, snippets of conversation, of the world. I imagine Frank, like a painter with a brush, choosing what to include, what to leave out, framing the world according to his own vision. The images aren't overly posed or perfect, instead they convey a raw, unfiltered view. It’s like he’s saying, "Here, look at this. This is what I saw. What do you see?" And that's where the conversation begins, not just between the artist and the world, but between the art and us.
