Viorel Marginean's Delta at the Black Sea presents us with a mesmerizing depiction of birds in flight. The dominant visual symbol here is, of course, the bird - an age-old motif laden with rich cultural and religious meaning. Birds are often associated with freedom, transcendence, and the soul's journey. We see echoes of this symbolism throughout history, from ancient Egyptian beliefs where birds represented the human soul, to their role as messengers between the earthly and divine realms in Greek mythology. Think also of the dove's representation of peace in Christian iconography. These birds evoke a sense of longing and aspiration. They engage our subconscious on a deep level, stirring feelings of hope, wanderlust, and the desire to break free from earthly constraints. The proliferation of the bird, in the end, is a testament to its enduring power as a symbol, constantly resurfacing and evolving in art and culture across the ages.
