Gunther Forg made Alba using what looks like black paint or ink on paper or canvas. I see this and immediately think about how art making is a process. It's like he's building something up with layers of marks and gestures. The texture is amazing! The paint is opaque and laid on thickly, the way it seems to drip and pool in places. You can almost feel the weight of the material. Look at the lines, like the way they cross and intersect, it's like looking at a chaotic road system, but with its own sense of rhythm and order. Forg reminds me a lot of Cy Twombly, in the way that they both build an image from a set of expressive marks, leaving space for ambiguity. Alba is not trying to depict anything in particular. It's more about the act of mark making itself, and the conversations that unfold between the artist and their materials.
