“The photographer's eyes are foggy…” by Alfred Freddy Krupa is an undated black and white photograph. Krupa was born in 1971, in what was then Yugoslavia, and this photograph reflects a specific moment in the Balkans marked by conflict, displacement, and shifting identities. The image, with its stark contrasts and intimate focus, captures a figure in repose, their form fragmented by shadow and light. The choice to obscure the face draws attention to the body, evoking questions of vulnerability and objectification. We are faced with a tension between the personal and the political. Is Krupa commenting on the voyeuristic nature of photography itself? The title suggests a blurring of vision, perhaps hinting at the subjective and often biased lens through which we perceive others. It challenges us to confront our own perspectives and the assumptions we bring to the act of seeing. It also asks us to see the person behind the image.
