Auto en vrachtauto 1940 - 1945

This black and white photograph, titled 'Auto en vrachtauto' and of unknown date, comes from an anonymous artist. The photo shows a car on the left and a truck on the right, each with people gathered around, framed like little memories. I think about the artist compiling this, moment by moment, framing the real world in such a way as to capture something important. I wonder what the artist was thinking as they pressed the shutter? What did these vehicles mean to them? Were they thinking about movement, or maybe the people in the frame? The texture of the photo paper, the way the light falls on it, gives the image a weight. A bit like the weight you feel looking through old family albums. Photographs and paintings, they’re all just trying to catch a moment, to hold onto something that’s slipping away. Every artist is in conversation, across time and space, trying to find a way to say something meaningful.
