Here we have "Ship of Fools" by Michael Cheval, it seems to be made in oil. I love how the paint's been applied, creamy and thick. It looks like he's built up layers to create these textures. The way the characters are arranged is interesting, like a circus troupe tumbling across the canvas. It's all slightly absurd, the colors, slightly muted but still vibrant, create a dreamlike quality. And see how he's used these tiny brushstrokes to make the waves? Each one seems alive, pulling you into the scene. I like to linger on that little figure rowing in a teacup, it makes me think of childhood fantasies. It reminds me a little of Pieter Bruegel, but with a modern, surreal twist. It’s a reminder that art can be playful, and ambiguous, and that there's always room for another interpretation.
