Curator: This work by León Ferrari presents a collection of reproduced news clippings concerning refugees and political asylum, seemingly assembled without a determined structure. It feels like a cry for help, laid bare. Editor: Absolutely. I’m immediately struck by the dates scrawled across the piece – they offer a key to understanding the socio-political context within Argentina at the time, particularly the human rights issues, during and after the dictatorship. It seems to be connecting historical events with contemporary crises. Curator: Precisely. Ferrari's practice consistently challenged political power structures, and here, he is potentially highlighting the hypocrisy of those in power during times of political unrest, by using the words of the oppressors against themselves. Editor: And how those power structures shape public discourse and the individual experiences of people seeking refuge. Seeing these clippings together like this drives home the importance of remembering history and remaining critical of political narratives. Curator: It really does, and I hope our visitors spend time reflecting on that legacy. Editor: I concur, and this piece leaves me feeling thoughtful about the political language we use even today.
