This quick study on paper was made by Fritz Syberg, but we don’t know exactly when. Look at those parallel lines. They’re almost vibrating, right? Syberg's mark-making reminds me of Cy Twombly's scribbles, or maybe even Agnes Martin's delicate grids. I wonder, was Syberg thinking about other artists when he made this? Or was he just trying to capture a fleeting moment, the feeling of being in that landscape? I can almost feel the scratch of his pen on the page, the way he built up those layers of lines to create depth and texture. It's like he's inviting us to step into his shoes and see the world through his eyes. Artists, we're all in conversation with each other across time. We bounce ideas off each other, steal from each other, and push each other to see the world in new ways. That’s what it is all about!
