And isn’t there a sense of tension with the way the blanket hugs and veils the body, emphasizing both its presence and its absence? Editor: Wow, I hadn't thought about the absence that way. So, where does the wallpaper fit into your interpretation? Is it purely decorative? Curator: Well, maybe it's a frame in itself, highlighting the vulnerability of this moment. I almost feel it provides context to the domesticity and, dare I say, constraint. Isn't it ironic that this very ornate wall treatment should almost make the scene feel smaller? What do you reckon? Editor: I think I was so focused on the figure that I didn't really read the room, so to speak! I love the idea that the wallpaper actually cages the figure instead of merely providing a backdrop.
