Daria Theodora imagined “The World As The Lord Offers” in paint, and probably a sprinkle of fairy dust. The colors feel so dreamy, almost like the world is breathing cotton candy. It’s clear that each choice, each mark, is a part of the journey of the painting. Look how the goat, with its fancy monocle, is built up with layers of purples and blues, tiny flecks of white like distant stars. This gives the piece a feeling of depth, making you feel like you could almost reach out and touch its silky fur. Then there’s the toad with the crown, his long tongue reaching for a pearl. He is such a bizarre and wonderful addition to this dreamscape. He is like something out of a fever dream! The whole thing reminds me of Paula Rego’s work, with its off-kilter storytelling. There’s no one way to read it, which is part of the fun, right?
