This is an anonymous photograph of the Interior of the Sint-Lambertuskerk te Huisseling, and, for me, it is less about the space and more about the light. It’s all captured in these sepia tones, the whole image is graded into being, but not exactly. I find myself drawn to the soft blur of the columns behind the altar, they appear like melting candles. The graininess reminds me that photography is, after all, a physical process. It's not just about capturing a scene, but about the interaction of light, chemicals, and paper. The way the light gently falls feels like a whisper. It reminds me a little of Atget's photographs of Paris. Both artists share this eye for the overlooked, finding beauty in the everyday, and hinting at the passage of time through the quiet details they choose to capture. Art isn't about answers, it's about asking questions and embracing the mystery.
