This untitled work by Füsun Onur uses tulle, string and a wooden frame to create a kind of sculptural painting. It’s all about the process, I think, a playful exploration of materials. The tulle cascades like a wave, a dreamy, translucent blue that hints at depth and movement, whilst a small paper boat sits at the top of this wave, looking like a child's toy. Look how the string is arranged in the top left corner – a delicate, almost scribbled sun, or maybe just a doodle? The way the tulle spills out of the frame breaks the boundary between the artwork and the space it occupies, it's almost as if the art is escaping! It reminds me a little of Arte Povera, the way it elevates simple materials. Ultimately, it’s about how art can be found in the everyday, in the unexpected combinations of humble things. It’s a testament to the idea that art doesn't always need to shout, it can whisper too.
