This is Harry Goodman’s enameled pewter beaker, made with who knows what, and when, because sometimes the best things come from just messing around, right? Look at how the dark wash of color puddles and pools, a world away from slick digital art. Goodman embraces the handmade, the imperfect. I can almost feel the grain of the paper, see the ghost of the artist’s hand moving across the page. And that laurel wreath? It's a bit wonky, off-kilter, as if the beaker itself is breathing, expanding and contracting. It reminds me of some of the early abstract expressionists, like Philip Guston, who embraced the messiness of paint, the sheer physicality of the medium. There’s a conversation happening here, across time and materials. It's a reminder that art isn’t about perfection; it’s about process, about exploration, about embracing the unexpected.
