Oleg Holosiy made this painting, "Through Foliage," with what looks like oil paint, and it’s all in greens, like a memory of summer. The painting feels like a process, a way of seeing, not just a picture of something. Look at how the paint is applied, kind of wet-on-wet, with strokes that blend together. It’s not about sharp details. It's about the feel of leaves and light, like you're peeking through a curtain of green. Holosiy’s use of color is interesting. There are areas of thick, almost opaque green, next to spots where the paint is thin, letting the canvas show through. See those dark marks suggesting leaves, and how they contrast with the lighter, hazy background? It’s as if Holosiy is playing with depth and flatness, pulling us in and pushing us away at the same time. It reminds me a little of Fairfield Porter, who also painted everyday scenes with a loose, painterly touch. "Through Foliage" invites us to slow down, to notice the subtle shifts in color and tone, and to appreciate the messy, imperfect beauty of the world around us.
