This hat, by Caroline Reboux, is made from black wool jersey, and decorated with red and brown feathers. When you look at the layering of those feathers you can see a real artistry at work; it feels less like a hat and more like a feathered creature has landed on your head! The texture is really interesting here. You have the soft jersey wool contrasted with the stiff glossy feathers. The warm autumnal colours of the feathers, reds and browns, against the stark black jersey create something really vibrant. Look at the way the feathers are arranged, like brushstrokes in a painting, radiating out from a central point. And how those smaller, darker feathers punctuate the overall texture, adding depth and contrast. This hat reminds me of Picasso's use of found objects in his sculptures. Reboux elevates these everyday materials, creating something unexpected and beautiful. It’s a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places.
