This is Banksy's spray paint work in Borodyanka, Tsentralna. It's amazing how he finds a way to intervene into a chaotic landscape like this. Look at the surface: raw, distressed, full of cracks and debris. The colour palette is muted – greys and blacks – reflecting the devastation around it. Then, bam! This stark black and white figure appears. It's so simple, yet so powerful. The gesture of the handstand becomes an act of defiance, a symbol of resilience amidst the ruins. I keep thinking about the layers here: the physical layers of destruction and the symbolic layers of hope. Maybe that’s why it feels so raw and immediate, like a punch to the gut that leaves you strangely hopeful. Like a piece of Serra's sculpture made by disaster.
