This porcelain rooster, standing just over six inches tall, was crafted by the Meissen Manufactory. The rooster itself is an ancient symbol, a harbinger of the sun, a symbol of vigilance, and courage. Look closely at the rooster's alert posture, its beak slightly open as if about to announce the dawn. From ancient Greece to China, the rooster has been associated with the solar deities. Its crowing dispels darkness, much like the sun banishes night. Consider the rooster's comb and tail feathers; these features recur across cultures. Think of the flamboyant roosters in Japanese prints, where they symbolize good luck. The image has gone through many non-linear iterations and shifts in symbolism. From a symbol of light and resurrection, to the prideful bird, it becomes associated with arrogance and boastfulness. The image of the rooster remains with us, deeply embedded in our cultural and subconscious memory.
