Huizen in ondergelopen buitenwijk van Parijs gezien door kale bomen
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
This is G. Dangereux’s photograph of flooded houses in the suburbs of Paris, a small print distinguished by its tonal range, composition, and texture. Dominating the foreground are bare trees that reach up to the top of the frame. Their linear, almost skeletal forms create a screen through which we glimpse a flooded landscape, where the horizon and sky seem to merge. This blurring creates a flattening effect which destabilizes traditional perspective. The scene invokes a profound sense of melancholy. The photograph suggests a tension between surface and depth, representation and abstraction. It also invites reflection on how the medium of photography itself shapes our perception of reality. Dangereux captures not just a scene, but a particular way of seeing and framing the world. The work invites ongoing interpretation, reflecting our own encounters with instability and the shifting nature of the world around us.
