Brian Halsey’s ‘Quatpad’ presents us with an arrangement of blue and green cubes contained in a deep blue circle. I love how the hard-edged geometry sits against the softness of the colors. Halsey clearly delights in the process of creating these shifting perspectival forms with flat planes of color. Look closely, and you'll see the slight variations in tone, which add depth and intrigue. The texture is smooth, almost clinical, and it’s hard to discern the artist's hand, but that doesn’t matter. The magic is in the illusion! Think of Josef Albers and his ‘Homage to the Square’ series. Both artists explore the relationship between color and form, inviting us to question our perception of space. 'Quatpad' is about possibilities, about seeing beyond the obvious. It encourages us to embrace the ambiguity and appreciate the many ways we can experience the world.
